What is Mini Model NATO Germany

During Mini Model NATO Germany, time, participants represent a NATO member state. In this role, they will be tasked with responding to and resolving a simulated crisis and debates of all kind. They will do so in an adapted version of the rules and procedures of Model NATO Germany.

Just as our flagship event, Mini Model NATO Germany aims to give students and young professionals deeper insight into the structures and practices of NATO. In light of the complexity of international security frameworks and their global impact, we consider it essential that these structures are accessible and understood by as many young people as possible. Not only to better understand the interrelationships of international politics, but also to be in a better position to actively shape international relations through political participation.

Furthermore, the simulation offers a hands-on experience of multilateral diplomacy and consensus-building in a realistic institutional setting. Participants train negotiation, strategic communication, coalition building and decision-making under pressure in a highly interactive and motivating learning-by-doing environment. At the same time, Mini Model NATO Germany provides an excellent opportunity to bring together motivated and internationally interested participants who often continue exchanging ideas and perspectives beyond the event itself.

How Mini Model NATO Germany

Before the simulation takes place, all participants attend a structured preparatory online workshop, where they are introduced to the Rules of Procedure of the simulation, that are based on NATO’s actual decision-making procedures. Additionally, we provide a template which structures the participants’ preparation for their country and that we can collect if requested. This preparation ensures that the format is suitable for participants with different levels of prior experience and knowledge.

While our team provides the complete content preparation, the conceptual design of the scenario and the full moderation and facilitation of the event on site, the host institution provides the venue, the participants and basic local organization.
